Valves and other components in industrial washing machines and cleaning equipment, work under severe conditions. The choice of material for the valve is dependent on the cleaning agent, which may be acidic, basic or neutral.
Acidic cleaners are often used to remove inorganic deposits such as limescale. Hydrochloric acid, acetic acid and sulfuric acid are common ingredients. For hydrochloric acid, PVC or PP are suitable. Stainless steel, brass and nylon are less suitable. For sulfuric acid or vinegar, a body of stainless steel or PVC can be used, in combination with an EPDM or FKM seal.
Alkaline cleaners can be used to dissolve oils, fats and proteins. Conventional ingredients are sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) or potassium hydroxide (caustic potash). For these strong alkalis, a suitable choice is stainless steel in combination with EPDM.
PTFE (Teflon) as a sealing material has a very good resistance is compatible with almost all media. For more information on these or other chemicals, please consult our chemical resistance chart or contact our customer service.
