Slow Closing Water Solenoid Valve

View Tameson’s selection of slow closing water solenoid valves. These water solenoid valves are designed for water media applications. Their closing time can be adjusted to slower closing times to prevent water hammer. In addition, the valves have a brass housing, EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer) seal, and are normally closed (NC) valves. A solenoid valve is quick acting compared to other valve types. The solenoid valve is electrically controlled and normally closed (NC). This means that when the valve is supplied with the proper voltage it will open. When voltage is not applied, it will close not allowing water to flow through. The 5282-series also has to ability to switch between normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO).

These valves are 2/2-way, meaning they have 1 inlet and 1 outlet. The main product specification considerations are discussed below to make an educated selection process.

Additional Slow Closing Water Solenoid Valve Selection Criteria

All of the Burkert series options are medium separated, which makes sure they won’t contaminate the media. The main consideration points are:

  1. 5282:
    1. Indirect operation
    2. Manual override
    3. Ability to switch between normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO)
    4. Adjustable response time
  2. 6213:
    1. Semi direct operation
    2. No manual override
  3. 6281:
    1. Indirect operation
    2. Manual override

The considerations for operating type are:

  1. Indirect Operated: Requires a pressure differential (typically 0.5 bar) to function properly.
  2. Semi-Direct Operated: A pressure differential isn’t required, but assists in the operation.

Note: Proper valve orientation of inlet and outlet is important for proper function. The correct orientation is denoted with an arrow on the valve housing.

This selection of valves are 2/2-way, and the inlet and outlet ports are both female. They are made to a BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) or NPT (American National Pipe Thread) standard. Available sizes are:

  • 1/4 inch
  • 1/4 inch NPT
  • 3/8 inch
  • 3/8 inch NPT
  • 1/2 inch
  • 1/2 inch NPT
  • 3/4 inch
  • 3/4 inch NPT
  • 1 inch
  • 1 inch NPT
  • 1-1/4 inch
  • 1-1/4 inch NPT
  • 1-1/2 inch
  • 1-1/2 inch NPT
  • 2 inch
  • 2 inch NPT
  • 2-1/2 inch

Note: BSPP (G) is widely used in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. BSPP and NPT threads are not compatible, but an adapter can be used. If you encounter compatibility problems, please contact us.

The voltage of the valve is dependent on what is available for the application. Typical battery operated applications will either be 12 or 24V DC, while other industrial applications will be 120, 230, or 380V AC. Available options are:

  • 12V DC
  • 24V AC
  • 24V DC
  • 120V AC
  • 230V AC
  • 380V AC

Note: A valve rated at 230VAC will work with an input voltage of 220VAC or 240VAC.

All products shown have a brass housing and an EPDM seal material. Brass as a housing material is ideal as it is resistant to water (won’t rust) and is durable. EPDM as a seal material is ideal as it is suitable for water, good resistance to weather influences, and suitable up to a maximum temperature of 120 °C or 130 °C.
