2-Way Vacuum Solenoid Valves
Direct and semi-direct operated solenoid valves operate from a zero bar pressure differential, therefore they are suited for most vacuum applications. For (ultra) high vacuum, special valves are on the market with a very low leakage rate, standard solenoid valves are not appropriate in this case. Directly operated solenoid valves have a small orifice, but they are reliable and have good sealing properties. Semi-direct operated valves have an internal flexible membrane and are characterized by a higher flow rate. With a very light vacuum, the sealing properties may be somewhat less compared to a direct acting valve. The direction of flow in a valve is often indicated on the housing with an arrow, or with a 1 or IN for the inlet port, and a 2 or OUT for the outlet port. Connect the vacuum to the outlet port (ie, port 2 or OUT), so that the direction of flow is always from the inlet to the outlet port. The article Solenoid valves for vacuum provides more background information.
