Gas Solenoid Valve
A gas solenoid valve is an electromechanical valve designed to control the flow of gas. The valve translates electrical impulses into mechanical movements to open and close the valve. The valves in this category has a brass or stainless-steel housing and NBR (nitrile rubber) seal. These materials are durable and are high temperature and pressure resistant. The valves are normally closed (NC) which means it remains in closed position when no power is applied. This category contains valves that are suited for low pressure inert gases. For applications that require an approval, such as for domestic gas appliances, please use the "Approval" filter for "Gas" as these valves are EN 161 certified.
Types of gas
The gas solenoid valve can operate with various types of gases. Some common gases include:

EN 161
EN 161 is an European standard for electrically operated valves for gas burners, gas appliances or similar applications. It specifies safety, construction and performance requirements for automatic shut off valves. EN 161 specifies that these valves automatically shut off the source of gas when the power is shut off. These valves are specifically designed to use with combustible gases.
Series Selection
The following series of gas solenoid valve are available for your application:
- 6013: The 6013 series valve is a compact, direct operated plunger solenoid valve. The direct operated solenoid valve does not require differential pressure to operate. The solenoid pulls ferromagnetic plunger which opens and closes the orifice directly. The 6013 series is designed for small flow rates and is generally suitable for low pressure applications.
- 6240: The 6240 series valve is a 2/2 semi-direct operated solenoid valve. The semi-directed valve does not require differential pressure but may assist in the operation. The valve body form supports fluidic flow for high flow rate system. The spring coupling of the pilot valve to the piston of the main valve helps in gentle opening and closing of the valve, thus providing longer service life. The 6240 series is suitable for various applications which includes low temperatures (-30°C), high pressure, explosion protection and steam.
- 0290: The 0290 series valve is a semi-direct (servo assisted) solenoid valve. It can be used for low pressure applications, such as gravity fed or closed circulating circuits. Its electronic controls help to achieve high inrush current to open the valve and maintain low holding current to keep it open. Thus, it consumes low power and generates low heat giving it longer service life.
Housing
The housing material must be able to resist corrosion of the gas media while withstanding the temperature and pressure range of the application. The following housing materials are available for your application:
Brass housing: Brass is suitable for neutral and non-corrosive gaseous media. It is durable, resistant to compressed air and can withstand high temperature which makes it a suitable housing material. Dezincification brass (DZR or DR) can be used if the application requires contact with acids or chlorides.
Stainless-steel housing: Stainless steel is another ideal housing material for gas. It provides a good chemical resistance to almost any type of gases and can withstand wear, temperature and pressure. Temperature and pressure limitations of the seal material and the actuators may affect the choice of stainless-steel as housing material for the desired application.
Operation type
The gas solenoid valve is categorized into different groups based on their operation. It is necessary to understand the pressure difference before deciding the operation type for your valve.
Direct operated: Minimum operating pressure or pressure difference is not required for direct operated valve and can be operated from 0 bar to the maximum operating pressure. This is generally used for small flow rates.
Semi- direct operated: Semi direct operated valve does not require pressure differential but may assist in the operation. The valves can work from 0 bar but can also handle high flow rate.
Voltage Options
The common voltage for gas solenoid valve includes DC 12V or 24V and AC 120V or 230V. Our available voltage options are:

ATEX
Any electric or pneumatically operated valve that may be used in potentially explosive atmosphere needs to be ATEX certified. ATEX is a set of European Directives for controlling explosive atmosphere.
