Motor Protection Circuit Breakers
MPCBs, or motor protection circuit breakers, are electromechanical devices that perform the following functions upstream of a motor:
- isolation.
- protection of motors against overload and short circuit.
- motor control (on/off).
When the MPCB detects an overload or a short circuit, it automatically disconnects the circuit. Internal contacts provide a link between the power supply and the load. The short-circuit currents are detected by an internal coil, whereas the overcurrents are detected by a heat-sensitive element welded to the bimetal. Under overcurrent conditions, the coil or the bimetal determine the opening of the contacts.
