Self-Aligning Ball Bearings
For applications where static and dynamic misalignment occurs, use self-aligning ball bearings. In these bearings, the outer ring has a single sphered raceway and the inner ring has two deep grooves formed by uninterrupted raceways. Angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing, such as shaft deflection, does not affect the bearings.
These bearings are ideal for high-speed and light load applications, and require minimal maintenance because of low heat generation.
The self-aligning ball bearings are available in three different versions:
- Open (default)
- Closed with metal seals on both sides (2Z version)
- Closed with rubber seals on both sides (2RS version)
The two closed versions are pre-lubricated with a high quality grease, while open ball bearings have to be lubricated externally. The 2Z version creates less friction than 2RS, but has worse sealing capabilities.
