Brass Ball Valves With Approvals

Explore Tameson's wide range of 2-way brass ball valves with approvals from various global manufacturers. A brass ball valve with approvals means it was made in accordance with the approval's standard making it suitable and safe for the particular application. Three of the most common applications requiring special ball valve approvals are drinking water, gas, and oxygen. This is due to them being sensitive and/or potentially dangerous if a component fails or contaminates the media. For drinking water and oxygen applications, it is critical that the media doesn't become contaminated or toxic as it is typically used for human consumption. A gas system needs to ensure it is leak-free. Typically, buying a ball valve with approvals is more expensive than one without, so ensure if you require one with approvals.

A manual ball valve is operated by turning the handle 90 degrees, so they are also called quarter-turn valves. The handle is connected directly to the ball through the stem. When the handle direction is parallel to the connecting pipe or hose, the ball valve opens and allows media to flow from the inlet through the bore to the outlet. When the handle direction is perpendicular to the connecting pipe or hose, the valve is closed, obstructing the media flow through the valve. This allows for easy visual identification on whether a two-way ball valve is open or closed. Manual ball valves are one of the most common valves due to their simple operation, reliability, long service life, and wide range of applications.

A brass ball valve that meets the standard of their application certifies it to be suitable and safe for usage. The 2-way function means it has two ports, an inlet and an outlet, and a ball with a bore in it. They are operated by a manual hand lever to turn the ball 90 degrees. Simply turn the handle perpendicular to the pipe to close it and parallel to the pipe to open it. This allows for easy visual identification on whether a two-way ball valve is open or closed. The brass housing and simple design of 2-way ball valves are known for their easy operation, reliability, long service life, and wide range of applications. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and has great mechanical properties. These ball valves are durable, with very less leakage over their lifespan, even if they have not been used for a long period of time. 2-way brass ball valves can be used with drinking water, gas, mineral oils, compressed air, and many other non-aggressive media. But they are not suitable for use with salt water or distilled water due to the risk of dezincification. Dezincification reduces the mechanical strength of brass by causing the zinc to be removed from the alloy resulting in a porous structure. However, brass ball valves are more resistant to contaminated media compared to other types of housing material and provides reliable sealing even in the case of dirty media. They can withstand high pressure, high temperature, and high flow rates. They are also economical due to their simple and robust design, low cost, and low maintenance needs. Due to these advantages, brass ball valves are used in many residential and industrial applications. 2-way brass ball valves commonly have water or gas approvals, and they are easy to install due to their threaded connection.
