Oil And Fuel Technology
For the most oils and fuels, a brass solenoid valve with FKM seals is a good choice. Solenoid valves can be direct or indirect operated. For indirect operated valves, a pressure difference is required across the inlet and outlet of typically 0.5 bar. In a closed circulating circuit, or a suction line, the differential pressure is usually too low. In this case, a (semi-)direct operated solenoid valve is recommended. Solenoid valves are suitable for clean liquids and gases. For contaminated media such as waste oil, other valve types such as (electric) ball valves, are more appropriate. Finally, solenoid valves are unsuitable for liquids with a high viscosity (higher than 50 Centistokes or mPa·s). Therefore, other valve types, such as electric ball valves, are better suited for viscous liquids such as heavy oils and fats.
