Thrust Ball Bearings
Thrust bearings are designed to support axial loads. They should not be exposed to radial loads. There are two types of thrust ball bearings: single-direction and double-direction thrust ball bearings. The single direction design consists of two rings, referred to as shaft and housing washers and a single ball and cage assembly. The double direction design, on the other hand, consists of three washers and two ball and cage assemblies. The ball and cage assemblies are separated by the shaft washer.
Thrust ball bearings can also be divided by their housing washer design. This washer serves as a resting surface of the bearing and it can be either flat or spherical. Flat thrust ball bearings are able to accommodate axial loads only, while spherical thrust ball bearings can also support shaft misalignment.
