Burkert Type 0256 - Plunger Solenoid Valve

Figure 1: Burkert Type 0256 plunger solenoid valve
The Burkert Type 0256 plunger solenoid valve is a direct-acting valve used for fluid control, pressure regulation, and automation systems. The valve has stainless steel or brass bodies for various connections and orifice sizes. Also, it has a block-screwed coil system. The coil is fixed directly onto the valve body using a threaded connection, providing a compact and integrated assembly for efficient operation. The valve is available in sizes up to DN 12.

Is Burkert Type 0256 - plunger solenoid valve the right choice for you?
The valve may be the right choice for the application if:
- The application requires a 100% duty cycle with fast response times
- The valve is used in an atmosphere with ignition risks
- The application involves high vibration or dynamic environments.
However, these solenoid valves are sensitive to dirt and can be used only with clean media. Also, the coil may get hot when energized; therefore, a well-ventilated environment is recommended.
Features
-
Material:
- Body: Brass (Body C with stainless steel seat 1.4112, except NBR version) or stainless steel 1.4581
- Seal: NBR, FKM, others on request
- Coil: Epoxy
- Spring: Stainless steel 1.4110
- Core: Stainless steel 1.4105
- Duty cycle: The valve is designed to work continuously at full capacity without overheating or wearing out (100% continuous rating).
- Switching time: The switching time is the time the valve takes to go from one state to another, typically from fully open to fully closed or vice versa. Table 1 shows the valve's opening and closing times for AC and DC signals.
- Electrical connection: Cable plug for Ø 7 mm cable is supplied as standard
- Approvals and certifications: The valve satisfies IP65 degree of protection, indicating it is dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction.

Signal type | Opening time (ms) | Closing time (ms) |
AC | 10 - 20 | 20 - 30 |
DC | 20 - 80 | 20 - 30 |
Table 2: Burkert Type 0256 plunger solenoid valve materials and their compatible media
Material | Compatible media | Suitable temperature |
NBR | Neutral media, compressed air, water, oil | -10 to 80 °C (14 to 176 °F) |
FKM | Hot air, hot oils, oils with additives | -10 to 130 °C (14 to 266 °F) |
Circuit function

Figure 2: Circuit function of Burkert 0256 plunger solenoid valve
Burkert 0256 is a 2/2 directional control valve (2 ports and 2 positions) with spring return:
- Port 1 (P) is typically the pressure/supply port.
- Port 2 (A) is typically the working/actuator port.
- The spring on the right side indicates it's normally closed and spring-returned.
- The diagonal line on the left represents manual/mechanical actuation (could be a push button or lever).
Operation
- When not actuated, the spring keeps the valve closed, blocking flow between ports P and A.
- When manually actuated (pushed/activated), the valve opens, allowing flow between ports P and A.
- When the actuation force is removed, the spring automatically returns the valve to its closed position.
Compatibility
Burkert Type 0256 plunger solenoid valve can be combined with:
- Type 2518 cable plug, form A, following the DIN EN 175301-803 standard. This compatibility allows for a secure electrical connection between the valve and the cable plug.
- Type 1087 timer form A, according to DIN EN 175301-803. The timer helps introduce a delay in the opening or closing of the valve after receiving a signal or command. This feature is beneficial in certain applications where precise timing is required, such as controlling the fluid flow duration, regulating dosing processes, or coordinating the valve's operation with other components in a system.
