Description
This pneumatically controlled butterfly valve allows for an increase in automation to your system compared to a manually controlled valve. The butterfly valve has a 80 mm (3 inch) diameter and is suitable for liquids and gases from 5 to 85°C. The pneumatic actuator is capable of creating 28 Nm of torque at 8 bar, but it has a control pressure window of 6 – 10 bar. The butterfly valve has a wafer type style connection to connect it to the piping/hosing carrying the media. The actuator is spring closed with a reliable aluminium rack-and-pinion rotational operation. The actuator has an anodized aluminum housing and either an aluminum cover, while the butterfly valve has a cast iron housing, stainless steel disc and a NBR seal. The maximum media pressure is 16 bar. The actuator has G1/4 ports for the air supply and return. We recommend mounting a 1/4" Namur solenoid valve directly onto the actuator to control the air supply. Please note that 1/4 refers to the Namur size of the valve, not the port size. Also, a position control or limit switch box can be mounted on the top of the actuator according to VDI/VDE 3845. The actuator is mounted on the butterfly valve via the ISO 5211 F05 flange (11 mm). The assembly is ATEX certified (II 2G Ex d C) and may therefore be used in potentially explosive environments.
Pros:
- Ability to directly mount a Namur solenoid valve to reduce fittings and tubing.
- Mechanical indicator on top shows the valve position.
- ATEX (II 2G Ex d C) certified for explosive environments.
- Lower investment cost than an electric version.
- Fast opening/closing
- Single acting conserves compressed air and the valve will return to initial position in case of air or power loss.
- Can be equipped with a limit switch box.
Cons:
- Single acting gives less control than double acting actuators.
- It requires a compressed air system and a solenoid valve to control the air supply.
- Energy consumption is higher than compared with electric actuators, but initial investment is lower.
BFL - PAL series
BFL
The BFL series butterfly valves are a great cost effective solution for on/off operations as well as modulating the flow. Manually operated by either a squeeze lever with a locking detent or hand gear wheel, they are easily used. Suitable for pressures from 4 - 16 bar depending on the diameter size (25 - 300mm), media, and material combination. Remove the squeeze lever or handwheel to create an ISO 5211 flange (size F05 to F12). It has a small constructive length relative to the diameter and can be installed by a lug type flange or wafer type flange. There is also a wide range of housing, disc, and seal material options allowing these butterfly valves. They can be used for both liquids and gases in applications with a large temperature range. Some models can also be used for drinking water (DVGW approval).
PAL
The PAL quarter turn pneumatic actuators allow you to control ball or butterfly valves with compressed air. They offer a reliable and robust solution to automate larger valves at a lower investment cost than electric actuators. They are mounted onto quarter turn valves with an ISO 5211 top flange (from F03 up to F12). With 8 different body sizes, they generate a torque range from 9.92 Nm to 901.8 Nm at 8 bar. Designed with a reliable aluminum rack and pinion rotational operation and designed to be either single acting (spring open or spring close) or double acting for increased control. These actuators are durable with an anodized aluminum housing and either an acetal resin (sizes 1-6) or aluminum (sizes 12-130) cover. The standard temperature range is -20°C to 80°C with an NBR seal, but an optional FKM seal is available for an increased maximum temperature of 120°C (sizes 1-6) or 150°C (sizes 12-130). All valves have a 1/4" Namur interface according to VDI/VDE 3845 with either G 1/8" or G 1/4" threads. The actuator is suitable for explosive environments thanks to the ATEX (II 2G Ex d C) certification.
