In a retroreflective photoelectric sensor, the transmitter and receiver are integrated into one housing. A reflector reflects the light beam back from the transmitter to the receiver. Light beams are interrupted by objects to be acquired, and outputs are connected through them. The color or shape of the object does not affect its function. Compared to the one-way light barrier, the retroreflective photoelectric sensor only requires one active component.
