An electric actuator turns the ball 90° from open to closed (or closed to open), which is why these valves are also called quarter-turn ball valves, shut-off valves, or electric open-close valves. A 2-way electric ball valve consists of two main components: the electric actuator and the ball valve.

For easy installation, 2-way electric ball valves are available with different connection styles, including threaded and flanged ends. Threaded valves are the most common, since they simply screw into existing pipework.
