Description
Brass Y-strainer with G 4 inch female threads and a stainless steel mesh with a 0.8 mm filter size. For media up to 16 bar (232 psi). The temperature range is between -20 °C and 110 °C (-4 to 230 °F). Y type strainers are to be used in a single flow direction. The installation orientation is correct when the protruding leg (containing the filter) points in the same direction as the flow direction. Additionally, an arrow on the housing indicates the installation direction. The residue collects in the filter. The filter can be inspected and cleaned by unscrewing the sealing cap. The seal is made of NBR (nitrile rubber). Particle filters are recommended to install in front of components that are sensitive to small particles, such as solenoid valves or pumps. The strainer filter size defines the maximum size of particles that can go through. The Y strainer filter mesh size selection is guided by the requirements of the downline equipment. Correct sizing is important. If the filtration size is too large, then unfiltered debris will move downstream and could affect the performance of the downstream equipment. If the filtration size is too small, the pressure drop will increase and due to the filtration size the filter will require more frequent cleaning. Sensitive elements such as generic solenoid valves will operate only with very clean fluids. It is therefore recommended to always install a filter upstream of these components to reduce the risk of particles getting through. For this kind of application, a filter mesh size of 0.5 mm or smaller is recommended.
Pros:
- Thanks to the Y-shaped design, there is a smaller pressure drop when compared to a T-shaped design
- Easy maintenance and cleaning thanks to the removable sealing cap
Cons:
- Brass is a durable material, but stainless steel has better mechanical and chemical properties
- The 0.8 mm filter size might be too coarse for some applications, like solenoid valves
SLB series
The SLB brass Y-strainers are available from G 1/4 inch up to G 4 inch. The standard mesh filter size is 0.5 mm (0.8 mm for sizes of G 2-1/2 inch and larger). Optionally, a fine filter size of 0.2 mm is available. All filters have a robust brass housing, NBR seal and a stainless steel mesh. Y-filters are often installed to protect pumps, valves and other components from debris in the fluid. Typical applications are water (no steam), neutral and non-aggressive liquids or gases, mineral oils and compressed air.
